Metropolitan
Pier and Exposition Authority
The
Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA) is a municipal
corporation created by the Illinois General Assembly. MPEA owns
and manages the McCormick Place complex and seeks to promote and
operate conventions, fairs and expositions in the Chicago area.
The MPEA Information Services Department recently asked ITQ LATA
to assist them in redesigning their current websites for MPEA (http://www.mpea.com),
Navy Pier (http://www.navypier.com), McCormick Place (http://www.mccormickplace.com)
and Arie Crown Theater (http://www.ariecrown.com).
ITQ
LATA’s role was to coordinate and facilitate website review
sessions with the four primary user groups, solicit content and
creative input, then translate creative concepts gathered from these
review sessions into design components and other artistic suggestions
(especially as they relate to providing a uniform navigational look
and feel across all four sites) and finally to create a new interface
design for each site and deliver working HTML templates.
Whereas the look for the MPEA and McCormick
website maintained a straight corporate approach, Navy Pier and
Arie Crown required additional creative work to maintain some unique
branding. Navy Pier is the #1 tourist attraction in the Midwest
and needed to maintain the look of a major entertainment venue and
the design for the Arie Crown Theater website required an artistic
quality, both elegant and stylish.
